British sculptor Anish Kapoor is designing a project to reach out to those devastated by the tragic earthquake and tsunami in Japan earlier this year. In collaboration with Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, Kapoor will create a mobile concert hall to bring music and performance arts to various areas in northern Japan.
The design is based on the concept of using an elastic material such as PVC that can be erected by inflating it with air. The structure will dismantle into separate sections that can more easily be transported by truck to each location. The show schedule is due to begin in the spring of 2012.
