Behind The Scenes: Ethan Murrow | Magic Bridge

Ethan Murrow is a Boston based artist, who was born in Greenfield Massachusetts and raised on a small farm in rural Vermont. When his family started to raise sheep, they looked to neighboring farmers for advice. In return they received a mixture of evidence tested animal husbandry and deep knowledge handed down from each families prior exposure. Through this experience,  Murrow was exposed to events that could not be factually explained.  His work reflects his childhood that was surrounded by the tinge of magic, mystery and abstract understandings of the world.

Ethan Murrow’s artistic process starts with performance and the development of props, wardrobe and scene, often finding inspiration in art historical references. This performance is photographed and then becomes the foundation of inspiration for the drawing or painting.

By using the photographs taken, Murrow starts to digitally layout the world that he wants to portray through the drawing or painting.

In this latest body of work Murrow has been captivated by the mystery, magic and depth of underwater environments. Many works in this exhibition feature a close connection to water that explores these different themes while tottering between the perspective between realism and fantasy.
