The city of Bilbao in Spain houses one of the most iconic contemporary buildings in the world, the Guggenheim designed by Frank Gehry. Now, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has begun feasibility studies for a second location in the historic town of Guernica. The concept is to create a modest-sized venue for temporary exhibitions and to commission artists’ interventions in the landscape. The proposed project has been met with some controversy, but studies project that the venue would attract an estimated 150,000 visitors annually.
